Urgent support

If you need help now.

Gototherapy is a directory of therapists, not an emergency service, and nobody here can respond to a message in a crisis. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. The contacts below are for other urgent situations and are laid out so you can find the right one quickly.

Immediate danger to life

Call 999

For an ambulance or the police, anywhere in the UK, at any time. If you cannot speak, 999 calls can still be connected; follow the operator's instructions.

Urgent but not life-threatening

Call 111

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day in England, Scotland and Wales, and can direct you to urgent mental health help in your area. Choose the mental health option.

Someone to talk to, at any hour

Samaritans, 116 123

Free to call, at any hour, from anywhere in the United Kingdom and Ireland. You do not have to be suicidal to call. If talking out loud is too much right now, Shout is a free text service: text SHOUT to 85258.

If you are already seeing a therapist

Your therapist will have told you what to do between sessions in an emergency. If you are not sure, use the contacts above first, and tell your therapist at the next session.

Your GP

Ask for an urgent appointment

A GP can refer you to NHS talking therapies, which you can also refer yourself to in England.
