1. Who we are and what this covers

Gototherapy is a UK directory of counsellors, psychotherapists, supervisors, coaches, trainers and training providers. These terms apply to anyone using the site to find a professional, and to professional members who are listed on it. Members also accept the cancellation and refunds policy and the privacy policy.

2. What Gototherapy is and is not

Gototherapy is a directory. It lists professionals whose registration, insurance and supervision have been checked by a person, per role, and prints what was checked and when. It does not provide therapy, does not employ the professionals listed, takes no part in the relationship between you and a professional, and is not an emergency service.

Verification is a check of documents and register entries at a point in time. It is not a recommendation, and it is not a promise that a professional is right for you or will be any good for you. That judgement is yours, and the first session is the place to make it.

3. Using the directory as a visitor

Visitors do not need an account. Gototherapy carries no enquiry form and stores no messages about anybody's mental health. The six questions run in your browser and are not sent to Gototherapy unless you choose to keep a shortlist, in which case they are encrypted on your device with a key only your link holds. Contact with a professional happens directly between you and them.

You may use the site to find a professional for yourself or for somebody you are helping. You may not copy the directory or its profiles in bulk, present yourself as Gototherapy, or use anything on the site to contact members for any purpose other than seeking their professional services.

4. Membership for professionals

Counsellors, psychotherapists and supervisors must hold a current entry on a UK professional register and keep it. Every member must hold current professional indemnity insurance. Therapists must be in supervision and their supervisor must confirm it. Coaches, trainers and training providers are checked for insurance and identity, and their profiles say that there is no register for their role.

You must tell Gototherapy when any of these changes: a register entry, insurance, supervision, or anything that would change what your badge says. Every check is repeated once a year. If a document expires and is not renewed, your badge lapses on its own and your profile says so until the renewal has been checked.

5. Verification and the badge

A person checks your entry on your professional register against the register itself, sees your insurance certificate and records its expiry, contacts your supervisor and records their confirmation, and matches your identity to the register entry. What was checked and when is printed on your profile. Nothing is checked that is not printed, and nothing printed was not checked.

The badge is conditional on role. Holding two roles means meeting both standards. Unregulated roles carry the printed caveat: “This is not a regulated profession in the UK, so there is no register to check.”

Gototherapy may take a badge off, or a profile down, when a check cannot be completed, when a register entry changes, or when a document turns out not to be genuine. You are told each time and why.

6. Payment

No payment is taken for membership at present. Membership is without charge while the directory is founded. There is no commission on sessions, nothing per enquiry, and nobody can pay to be placed higher.

When a price is set, it will be announced in advance, these terms and the cancellation and refunds policy will be updated together, and no member will be charged without agreeing to the price first. A member who does not wish to pay may close their account before the first payment and nothing is owed.

7. Profile content and accuracy

You are responsible for what your profile says. It must be true, in your own words, and about you. It may not claim outcomes, promise that therapy will fix anything, or state qualifications, registrations or experience you do not hold. The photograph must be of you, on your own; never a stock image.

Gototherapy may ask you to change text that breaks these terms and may take the profile down until it is changed. There are no reviews or ratings on the site, and members may not add them to their own text.

8. Suspension and removal

Gototherapy removes a listing when a professional register sanctions or removes the member, when a document sent for checking is not genuine, or when a profile breaks these terms and is not corrected after we ask. A lapsed check is not a removal: the badge comes off and comes back when the renewal is checked. Members are emailed each time and told why, and may reply through the complaints page.

9. Liability

Gototherapy checks documents and register entries with care, but it does not provide therapy and cannot be responsible for what happens between you and a professional you find here. Your relationship with a professional is with them, under their own terms and their professional body's rules.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Complaints and disputes

11. Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. A change that affects members, such as the first price, is emailed to every member before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it; a member who does not accept a change may close their account.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
